PRC June 2009 Nursing Licensure Examination Results

32, 617 out of 77, 901 passed the Nursing Licensure Examination given out by the Board last June, according to the announcement made by the Professional Regulation Commission a few hours ago.

Of the qualifief examinees, Golda Manto Yap, a graduate of the Felipe R. Verallo Memorial Foundation, topped the nursing board examinations with an exam score of 86.60 percent. Yap was then followed by Ronie Rose Capati Arevalo, a graduate of Adamson University. For a complete list of everyone who passed, check out this web page from PinoyBSN.

For those who are still not aware, nursing is among the most famous, if not the most famous, course of study for Filipino college students. Fueled by the global need for healthworkers, thousands of nursing schools have opened up all over the nation, taking it thousands of new aspiring nurses every year.

This also reflects the fact that a lot of Filipinos recognize that there are far more lucrative opportunities waiting for them abroad. It was just like the Physical Therapy craze of the last decade, except that this must be more pronounced, widespread, and longer-lasting. No economic crisis will stop affluent nations from taking in health professionals for their aging citizens.

Back here in the Philippines, however, there is still this lack of nurses especially in far-flung areas. It's quite ironic that our schools continue to pump professional healthworkers abroad when there is a clear shortage in certain areas. You cannot blame these nursing students, anyway. They've invested so much money in their nursing education. It is only natural for them to seek immediate return of these investments and go abroad as soon as possible.

Nonetheless, I still congratulate the passers of the June 2009 Nursing Licensure Examinations. Your efforts have already borne fruit. Welcome to the so-called "real world."
