SECONDARY SCHOOL EXAMINATION
The Board conducted first Secondary Examination which was earlier known as Matriculation Examination, in 1969 and 79970 candidates appeared in that year. The no. of candidates has now jumped to 317977 in March 2007 Semester Examination out of which 125773 appeared from the Govt. Schools and 192204 candidates appeared from the Private Schools in the State. There were 197363 boys and 120614 girls appeared in this examination.
Eligibility for the Examination:
All regular students of X class of Govt./recognized Secondary/Senior Secondary School who have passed IX class examination as regular students and who have completed not less than 75% of the total attendances and should have an Enrolment No. of this Board.
Due to semesterisation, examinations are conducted twice in one academic year. First examination is conducted in the month of September and Second semester examination is conducted in the month of February.
The certificate of qualification is awarded to a candidate on the basis of performance in both the semester examinations.

(a) Third Language (any one out of Sanskrit/Punjabi/Urdu)

(e) Drawing
(f) Music (Hindustani/Karnataka)
(i) Hindustani Music (Vocal)
(ii) Hindustani Music (Melodic Instruments)
(iii) Hindustani Music (Percussion Instruments)
(iv) Karnataka Music (Vocal)
(v) Karnataka Music (Melodic Instruments)
(vi) Karnataka Music (Percussion Instruments)
(g) Dance
(h) Physical and Health Education
(I) Computer Science
Subject of Internal Assessment to be sent by Schools
(7) Environmental Education
Important Instructions:
* Blind student will not be allowed to opt for Drawing as subject of study. They shall also be exempted from Practical Examination except in music. In such cases, the marks in theory papers shall be proportionately increased.
* Additional Subject is optional and need not be taken compulsory.
